Reuters-Ipsos Opinion: Majority Of US Citizens Urge Trump To Admit Palestinian State
JAKARTA - The majority of Americans in the Reuters-Ipsos poll stated that President Donald Trump's administration must recognize an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
Citing Reuters, according to a survey conducted for six days and closed on Monday this week, President Trump's rejection of Palestinian sovereignty is inconsistent with public opinion.
The poll showed that 59 percent of respondents supported US recognition of the Palestinian state, while 33 were against it, and the rest were unsure or did not answer questions.
Meanwhile, the poll also presented data on half of Trump's supporters from the Republican Party, 53 percent against this, while 41 percent of Republicans said they would support the US to recognize the Palestinian state.
The results of this survey also resulted in about 60 poll respondents saying Israel's response to Gaza was excessive, compared to 32 percent who disagreed.
The Reuters-Ipsos poll shows signs that the US public is ready to praise Trump if his plans to reconcile Gaza and Palestine as a whole succeed.
This is based on 51 percent of poll respondents agreeing with the statement that Trump "preserves significant praise" if peace efforts are successful, compared to 42 percent who disagree.
Regarding the level of respondents' acceptance of Trump's foreign policy, it appears to have increased slightly, reaching 38 percent in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, compared to 33 percent in a poll conducted in early October 2025, just ahead of the ceasefire agreement.
This Reuters-Ipsos poll was conducted online involving 4,385 respondents from all over the US with a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
