Government Prepares IDR 10 Trillion For New Sawah Printing Program In 2026

JAKARTA - The government has prepared a budget of IDR 10 trillion to produce 400,000 hectares (ha) of new rice fields during 2026. This step is taken in order to strengthen national food security.

Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman said the government is targeting the printing of new 225,000 ha rice fields this year and 400,000 ha next year.

"So God willing, we will produce 400,000 hectares of rice fields next year, this year 225,000 hectares. And God willing, we will continue the following year. (The budget) is approximately Rp. 10 trillion," Amran said when met at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 21.

Of the total 400,000 hectares to be printed next year, Amran continued, 200,000 hectares are included in the development of food estates spread across several regions. Such as Papua to South Sumatra.

"Including food estates in Papua, with Central, South, and South Sumatra," he explained.

In addition, Amran also responded to the findings of high rice prices in several areas that were included in zone III. Amran admitted this.

Therefore, continued Amran, his party has deployed a team from the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) to the field to monitor regional points that have experienced price spikes.

"We have dispatched a team, departed. Today the team went to high-price points. We dispatched the team, immediately went down," Amran said.

Previously, Deputy Minister of Finance (Wamenkeu) Suahasil Nazara said infrastructure, food and housing security projects had cost the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) Rp276.1 trillion.

In detail, the budget of IDR 170.1 trillion is absorbed for infrastructure, IDR 81.2 trillion for food security and IDR 24.8 trillion for housing.

"Infrastructure development in the far right is IDR 170, 1 trillion. (The absorption) is 42.3 percent of the ceiling (IDR 402.4 trillion)," said Suahasil in the October 2025 edition of our APBN press conference, Tuesday, October 14.

Suahasil said the food security budget only reached Rp. 81.2 trillion or 56.1 percent of the total ceiling of Rp. 144.6 trillion.

This figure is intended to print rice fields and intensify land of IDR 3.4 trillion. In a sense, 31.3 percent of the ceiling of IDR 10.9 trillion.

"To print rice fields and intensify the land (budget absorption) is still relatively low, 31.3 percent of the ceiling of Rp. 10.9 trillion, so we also need to accelerate this," he said.
