Local And Diaspora Residents Celebrate "Outdoor Festival Indonesia 2025" In Melbourne
JAKARTA - Hundreds of local residents and Indonesian diaspora in Melbourne are busy doing flash mob accompanied by traditional songs from Palembang 'Cuk Mak Ilang' in the excitement of "Outdoor Festival Indonesia 2025" (FI 2025) which was held in Melbourne on Sunday.
This flash mob is one of the main highlights in the midst of the festival which took place at Argyle Square, Carlton, one of the most iconic public spaces in the heart of Melbourne. The cheerful regional music scene, plus the participants' compact movement, has attracted the attention of visitors who fill the festival area.
More than 3,500 people also enlivened this annual festival, which was filled with various cultural arts performances, typical Nusantara culinary delights, to crowds of MSME booths and communities.
Indonesia's distinctive atmosphere feels so lively, full of color and spirit of togetherness that brings together various groups, both from the Indonesian diaspora community and other Australians and internationals.
FI 2025 is an annual activity held by the Indonesian diaspora community in Melbourne under the banner of the Indonesian Inc. Festival in collaboration with the Indonesian Consulate General in Melbourne. This activity is aimed at promoting Indonesia's cultural wealth as well as Indonesia's trade potential, tourism and investment in the Australian people, especially in the State of Victoria.
The Outdoor Festival was opened by the President of FI Inc, dr. Cely Goeltom, Melbourne Consul General Yohannes Jatmiko Heru Prasetyo, FI 2025 Advisor Tantowi Yahya and Victorian Parliament member Tom McIntosh. In addition, on the sidelines of the event, Minister for Community and Multicultural Affairs of the State of Tasmania Madeleine Olgivie was also present.
This year, FI 2025 consists of four main activities, namely the FI Goes to School, Indonesian Night, Outdoor Festival and Business Forum. Carrying the theme "Glorious Sriwijaya", FI 2025 revives the history of the glory of Sriwijaya, the largest maritime empire in Southeast Asia, by making the southern part of Sumatra the main focus of promotional activities.
"This year the FI 2025 team appointed the southern part of Sumatra which includes the Bangka Belitung Islands, Bengkulu, Jambi, Lampung and South Sumatra, as objects for promoting tourist destinations for foreign tourists, especially from Australia. In addition, the 2025 Indonesian Festival is also an opportunity to introduce economic potential and investment as well as Indonesian MSME products, including from the southern part of Sumatra, to business actors in Australia," explained Indonesian Consul General Yohannes Jatmiko Heru Prasetyo, launching a statement from the Indonesian Consulate General in Melbourne 21 October.
Every year, the Indonesian Festival is one of the events awaited by not only Indonesian diaspora in Melbourne, but also local residents who enjoy traditional food and beverages typical of the archipelago, considering the large number of vendors participating in selling various Indonesian culinary and snacks.
Outdoor activities are one of the peak events of the entire 2025 FI series. Previously, the FI 2025 team had actively promoted through FI Goes to School by visiting schools in Melbourne and Ballarat. This activity has been going on from June to September 2025.

In addition, the 'Indonesian Night' event was also held at the Melbourne City Conference Center (MCCC) on Friday night (17/10). This is an Indonesian cultural night featuring a performance of South Sumatra's theatrical dance by the Indonesian arts team Saka Gallery as well as the performance of South Sumatra's musical and dances performed by the South Sumatra Provincial Culture and Tourism Office.
The event, which was witnessed by around 350 visitors, was also enlivened by a song by the Mudika choir from Melbourne and a fashion show featuring the work of a fashion brand from Indonesia Klambikoe by Anna.
The entire activities of the Indonesian Festival closed on October 20, 2025, through the implementation of the Business and Business-to-Business Forum (B2B) in the context of concrete steps to promote Indonesia's economic, trade, tourism and investment potential to potential investors and business actors in Australia which was opened by the President of the Indonesian Inc.
