Two Women Smuggling 8.26 Kg Of Shabu Threatened With Death Penalty

SIDOARJO - Two women with the initials ARF (22) and WLN (27) who smuggled 8.26 kilograms of methamphetamine along with 10 thousand ecstasy pills face the death penalty.

Both were arrested by the Sidoarjo City Police (Polresta) together with the East Java Province National Narcotics Agency (BNN).

Sidoarjo Police Chief Kombes Christian Tobing said the two suspects were charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) and Article 112 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

"With the threat of death penalty, life imprisonment, or a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and a maximum fine of Rp. 8 billion," said Tobing as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 21.

Tobing explained that the disclosure of the case began with the Sidoarjo Police Narcotics Investigation Unit securing drug packages to be sent to Jakarta by air transportation via Juanda International Airport in Sidoarjo on September 18, 2025.

At that time, his party received information from the Military Police Detachment (Denpom) of the Juanda Navy Base (Lanudal) regarding the methamphetamine smuggling attempt sent using commercial flights on the Surabaya route to Jakarta.

From these findings, officers found a large plastic bag containing more than 500 grams of methamphetamine.

Armed with these findings, his party together with the East Java Province BNN then carried out developments and arrested ARF suspects in the Cipondoh area, Tangerang, Banten Province, when receiving another package in the form of narcotics class I of methamphetamine weighing 477 grams on September 23, 2025.

The police again carried out developments and on September 25, 2025, again arrested another suspect, WLN, at Pasar Senen Station, Central Jakarta when he was about to bring a package containing narcotics to an area in North Jakarta.

From the hands of WLN, the police confiscated a blue suitcase containing three packages of methamphetamine weighing 7,788 kilograms and 10 pills of ecstasy.

Tobing stated that based on the suspect's confession, the prohibited item belonged to a person with the initials BY, who is still a fugitive from the police.

"The two suspects that we managed to secure were tasked with being couriers to deliver goods to the designated location," said Tobing.

Tobing said that the total amount of drug evidence that was confiscated was Rp9.2 billion. According to him, with the disclosure, the police and BNN managed to save approximately 65 thousand people from drug bondage.

Meanwhile, the Head of the East Java Province BNN, Brighen Budi Mulyanto, admitted that he was concerned about the actions of the two women who were arrested.

He said the two women were part of an international drug network operating in various regions in Southeast Asia such as Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia to Indonesia.
