Simeulue BPBD Deploys Personnel To Handle Floods In 3 Villages
ACEH - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Simeulue Regency, Aceh, deployed personnel in handling floods that hit three villages in the local district.
Head of BPBD Simeulue Regency, Zulfadli, said that as many as three villages were hit by floods following heavy rains accompanied by strong winds that occurred in the area.
"The BPBD team has been deployed to the flood location to help residents affected by the disaster. So far there has been no evacuation. The water level has reached the calf of an adult," he said in Simeulue, Antara, Tuesday, October 21.
The areas hit by the flood were Donggek Village in West District and Nancawa and Busung Indah Villages in Central Teupah District. Floods also inundated a number of roads in the area.
In addition to flooding, said Zulfadli, several trees also fell and covered the road in Suak Buluh Village, East Simeulue District, and the bridge broke. The disaster had cut off public transportation.
"Until now, flood-affected residents are still staying in their respective homes. There have been no reports of casualties due to the flood. Meanwhile, material losses are still being collected. An emergency bridge has been made," said Zulfadli.
Based on BMKG's early warning, he said, there is the potential for moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in several areas in Simeulue Regency for the next few days.
Therefore, Zulfadli appealed to people in Simeulue Regency to be aware of extreme weather that has the potential to cause natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and fallen trees.
"People who live in disaster-prone areas and coastal and mountainous areas are advised to increase vigilance and preparedness," said Zulfadli.
Simeulue Regency is the outermost archipelago region in Aceh Province. Simeulue Island is located in the Indian Ocean, which is about 180 nautical miles from the west coast of Sumatra Island.
