Man Suspected Of ODGJ Throws Himself Into Kelapa Island Pier
JAKARTA - A man with the initials R is suspected of having a mental disorder who is desperate to throw himself into the sea at the pier of Kelapa Island, Thousand Islands, North Jakarta.
The victim was rescued by members of the North Thousand Islands Police who received the report. The victim was successfully evacuated and returned to his family.
The Head of the Thousand Islands Police, AKBP Arga Dija Putra, confirmed that the police had evacuated.
According to him, the incident began when R was desperate to throw himself into the sea at a dock where the ship was docked.
"Initially the incident was reprimanded by residents, but R did not want to go up to the pier," said AKBP Arga Dija when confirmed by VOI, Monday, October 20, 2025.
Furthermore, at around 13.30 WIB, residents came to the Sector Police to inform them that the man with the initials R was suspected of being a person with a mental disorder (ODGJ) who was determined to throw himself into the sea.

"Then our members immediately arrived. The location is a dangerous area, that's the dock where the ship is leaning, we immediately docked to check the location," he said.
When members of the Police arrived at the scene, the police found R already in the sea area.
"Indeed, the man with the initials R was already in a position in the water and our members approached. Members then reprimanded him to go up. Members then evacuated R and took him home to his house," he said.
The police chief appealed to R's family to carry out strict supervision of him.
"Thank God the victims were able to be evacuated safely. We also continue to urge residents to immediately report if there is a similar incident," he said.
