Ministry Of Transportation Targets BRT Projects To Operate In 2027
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Land Transportation is developing an urban mass transportation system in the Medan-Binjai-Deli Serdang area. This project is targeted to operate in 2027.
The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation together with the North Sumatra Provincial Government also held a coordination meeting to discuss a number of preparations.
Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan said there are four things that must be prepared by the local government. One of them is land availability.
"This project is targeted to be completed and operational in 2027. What the first regional government must prepare is land availability, the second which is also very important is service operations," said Director General Aan in an official statement, Friday, October 17.
Then, continued Aan, local governments need to prepare buses to run this service. He said the local government can discuss the scheme for providing buses later.
"Then the last one is institutionality. Of course, in this program, cooperation and collaboration from local governments are needed which are divided into several regions, namely Medan, Binjai and Deli Serdang. Both later in the form of regulations, resources, and others," he said.
The Medangan BRT service is planned to serve 21 km of special lanes, 32 bus stops on corridors, 696 off-corridor stops with 527 buses. This program aims to increase urban mobility, work access, user satisfaction, and strengthen mass transportation institutions.
"Until now, the tender for 4 construction packages is running, namely the On-Corridor Line, the On-Corridor Bus Stop, the Off-corridor Bus Stop, and the Amplas Depo and Pinang Baris. The target is to start construction by the end of 2025," he said.
Aan also appreciated the efforts of local governments to participate in launching and supporting urban mass public transportation programs that could benefit the community around Medan.
Meanwhile, the Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, admitted that he was committed to contributing to the success of the mass project in his area.
