Without Modification, Gaikindo Guarantees That Cars In 2000 And Above Are Safe To Use E10 Etanol Fuel

JAKARTA - The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) ensures that cars produced after 2000 and above can generally use 10 percent Ethanol (E10) mixed fuel. There is no need for modifications to the engine sector to use the fuel.

General Secretary of Gaikindo, Kukuh Kumara, explained that globally, vehicles produced in the modern era have been designed to be compatible with ethanol levels of up to 10 percent. He said he had conducted various studies and experiments.

"So, globally I have seen it with E10, so the vehicles made after 2000, should have been able to adopt it (BBM E10), there is no problem," said Kukuh in Jakarta, quoted Friday, October 17.

Kukuh added that testing of ethanol fuel in Indonesia has also been carried out up to E20 levels. As a result, it shows that engine performance remains normal.

"We have tried it until E20 there is no problem. In Brazil alone it can reach E100, even here we have tested it," he said.

According to Kukuh, the government's move to implement the E10 is part of a major effort towards net zero emissions and a clean energy transition. Therefore, Gaikindo supports this for the good of the environment.

"Of course we support, technically it's okay, because one of the efforts to get to net zero emissions is renewable energy, because ethanol is renewable," he explained.

Meanwhile, the government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is still preparing a roadmap for the implementation of E10 fuel in Indonesia. The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, said that the readiness of the domestic ethanol industry is an important factor, both sugar cane-based and cassava-based.

This step is also in line with President Prabowo Subianto's directives to build a sustainable national ethanol industry. The implementation of E10 in Indonesia will be a continuation of the success of the biodiesel program, which has reached a mixture of up to B40.
