Jokowi Attends The 62nd Anniversary Of The UGM Forestry Faculty

YOGYAKARTA - The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) attended the 62nd Dies Open Senate Meeting of the Faculty of Forestry, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Forestry UGM, Yogyakarta, Friday, October 17.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni who delivered a dies Natalis speech, as well as the Chancellor of UGM Prof Ova Emilia and the ranks of the academic community and Jokowi arrived at the UGM campus at around 08.10 WIB and was warmly welcomed by university leaders and invited guests.

Ova Emilia in her speech highlighted the major challenges faced by the world as a result of climate change and the scarcity of natural resources.

"We all feel hot in the last few days, of course, because of extreme weather. And the scarcity of natural resources in the future is the main risk for all of us and the people of the world. That is the focus of the reflection in this coalescence," he said.

Ova emphasized that global dynamics is currently colored by increased environmental disasters such as drought, floods, and forest fires.

"The global world is faced with high environmental disasters of various kinds which of course have an impact on forest sustainability, thus requiring massive mitigation efforts and adaptation of management," he added.

He also emphasized the importance of superior human resources in forestry fields that are not only modern and efficient, but also have deep concern for nature.

"The forestry sector requires superior human resources, not only as a modern and efficient forest manager, but as people who love forests with their hearts," he said.
