Indonesia Pursues Third Place At SEA Games 2025

JAKARTA The Indonesian contingent will try to pursue third place in the final standings for the 2025 SEA Games medals which will take place in Thailand at the end of the year.

The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, said that based on current calculations, Indonesia is still outside the top three.

"We want our target to be in third place again," Erick said at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday, October 16, 2025, evening WIB.

Indonesia's desire to finish in third place in the 2025 SEA Games has been hampered by the many reductions in match numbers by the host.

Overall, there are 41 gold medal contributors for Indonesia at the 2023 Cambodian SEA Games that will not be competed in the 2025 SEA Games.

Erick said that as soon as possible he would review the sport to determine what realistic targets the Indonesian contingent could achieve at the biennial multi-pronged sporting event.

"(With preparations) only one and a half months away, we can still catch up. Hopefully we can achieve the target," he said.

It is estimated that Indonesia may be able to bring home 78 gold medals from Thailand later. This figure does not guarantee a safe point in the top third place.

To be able to finish according to the target, Indonesia needs 82-90 gold medals. This estimate reflects on the previous edition in Cambodia 2023, where Indonesia secured 87 gold medals.

The 2025 SEA Games in Thailand are scheduled to take place on 9-20 December. In total there are 50 sports and 574 match numbers contested in the multi-branch sporting event.
