Had Delayed, DKI Provincial Government Targeted Rorotan RDF Officially Operating In November
JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, is targeting the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant Rorotan project to be inaugurated to operate next month.
This target is again delayed, which was previously projected last September. Currently, the operation of RDF Rorotan is still in the trial stage.
"The RDF trial will continue until the end of October 2025 and starting November 2025, DLH plans that RDF Rorotan is ready to operate," Asep told reporters, Thursday, October 16.
Since October 1, 2025 until now, the RDF Rorotan trial has started by processing household waste in stages starting from 30 tons, 100 tons, to 200 tons.
The DKI Provincial Government also invited representatives of the community around RDF Rorotan, namely from the Rorotan Village, East Cakung Village, Ujung Menteng Village, Pusaka Rakyat Bekasi Village, to Harapan Indah Bekasi to see the readiness of RDF Rorotan so that it no longer raises residents' concerns over the pollution of the smell of garbage.
"They saw firsthand the addition of equipment to improve emission control and the appeals that had been installed, reviewed the waste processing process, and witnessed visually the quality of emissions/saps that had gone through emission control tools," said Asep.
Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung explained the reason why RDF Plant Rorotan, North Jakarta has not yet been officially operated.
Pramono admitted that currently RDF Rorotan is in the stage of testing waste processing into fuel at the level of coal or commissioning. He said, the commissioning process really needs to be done carefully, especially since the waste processed has a large volume.
"So our current Rorotan has actually started to carry out commissioning. But indeed the scale is not yet large. The scale is between 100 and 200 tons," said Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Friday, October 10.
Pramono realized that when tested a few months ago, residents complained about the pollution of the smell of garbage from the facility. Pramono also does not blame residents who are still worried about the potential smell of garbage that is still smelled when RDF in North Jakarta is operated in the future.
To reduce concerns from local residents, Pramono promised to invite them to review the RDF location to ensure pollution no longer occurs before it is finally inaugurated.
The DKI Provincial Government has also installed a deodorizer equipped with a blower, an advanced oxidation system with ozone and ultraviolet light, scrub, and an active carbon filter to neutralize odor-causing gases.

"If it can be done and then it doesn't cause a smell effect and so on, I'm sure that what we have done to improve in Rorotan by installing a deodorizer can actually reduce problems that the community complained about yesterday," he added.
