KUPANG - City Police (Polresta) Kupang City officers managed to arrest Bento, the perpetrator of theft and stabbing which resulted in the death of a mother of a watermelon trader from a stab wound to the left chest.
"The perpetrator was arrested in Belu Regency on Wednesday, after 14 days of searching and chasing," said Kupang City Police Chief Kombes Djoko Lestari when the case was released in Kupang, Antara, Thursday, October 16.
Djoko explained that Bento was arrested while working at an iron shop in Belu Regency. When arrested, the perpetrator did not fight back.
However, after being arrested, the perpetrator tried to escape, so the police were forced to take firm action by shooting him in his left calf.
"The wound on his left calf was because he tried to escape after being arrested, so our members took firm action," he said.
Bento is known to be a recidivist in a theft case who was previously detained in Kupang Prison. He was released conditionally towards the end of last year.
From the results of the examination, Bento's criminal act was allegedly triggered by alcohol consumption.
In his confession to the police, Bento said the crime was committed after he drank liquor with his colleague.
For his actions, the perpetrator was charged with Article 338 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning murder with a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.
In addition to killing a mother who was a watermelon trader, Bento's action also caused the victim's son-in-law to suffer serious injuries due to four stabs in the left neck and left chest.
