Menbud Fadli Zon Appreciates The Potential Fort Otana As A Gorontalo Creative Economy Simpulse

JAKARTA The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Fadli Zon, directly inspected the historic website of Fort Otana, a symbol of the glory of 16th-century Gorontalo which is now revived as a center for historical heritage-based cultural and creative economic activities.

During his visit, Wednesday, October 15, Fadli emphasized the importance of preserving historical sites not only in terms of conservation, but also as a driving force for the community's economy. This area must be activated as a space for local cultural expressions starting from art, traditional culinary, to creative products that reflect Gorontalo's identity. We need to encourage intellectual cultural properties such as the design of t-shirts, hugs, and souvenirs typical of Otanaha," he said.

The Fort Otaha stands majestically on the hill facing Limboto Lake, offering a stunning natural panorama. Its three defense structures witnessed the history of the Gorontalo Kingdom which protected its territory from enemy attacks in the 16th century. Now, its historical charm and natural beauty are the potential for excellent cultural tourism in Eastern Indonesia.

Fadli Zon said that Fort Otanaha is not just a legacy of the past, but a new source of life for the community. "With integrated management, this cultural heritage can become a node for the creative economy. Local people will benefit directly from the tourism sector and the creative industry," he said.

During the visit, Fadli Zon was accompanied by Gorontalo Governor Gusnar Ismail, Sofian Ibrahim Regional Secretary, Arianto Husain Tourism Head, and Head of Education and Culture Office Rusli Wahyu

The Ministry of Culture is committed to making Fort Otanaha an example of revitalizing historical sites that provide economic benefits and strengthen national identity. History, for Fadli Zon, is not to be stored in the past, but to be revived for the future.
