2 Indian Police Suicide In A Week, Allegedly Triggering Caste-Based Racism

JAKARTA - At least two police officers in India have committed suicide in the past week. It is suspected that the two of them carried out the action due to caste-based racism by senior officers.

The first police officer to commit suicide was Assistant Police Inspector (ASI) in Haryana, Sandeep Kumar, found dead near a farm in Ladhot Village, Roftak, on Tuesday local time.

"Forensic investigations are ongoing and after that we will share further details," said police officer SP Rohtak Surendra Singh Bhoria quoted from the Hindustan Times.

Sandeep left written records and video recordings before committing the suicide, which investigators found after the incident.

Dalam catatan tersebut, Sandeep menuduh perwira polisi India angkatan 2001, Y Puran Kumar, menjadi penyebab dirinya melakukan hal tersebut.

Y Puran Kumar is known to be the second Indian police officer to commit suicide on October 7.

Puran also left a final note before the suicide. Kumar accused several senior officers, including Kapur and Rohtak SP Bijarniya, of harassment and caste-based discrimination, which he said contributed to his emotional stress.

Meanwhile, the 6-minute 26-second video, which allegedly contained footage of Sandeep before his death, has spread widely. A resident of Julana's area in Haryana, Jind, who had seen the video, said Sandeep had sacrificed his life for honesty.

People will wake up when we walk over the truth. A corrupt officer [referred to Y Puran Kumar] has received money to get rid of several names in the murder case registered at the Aware police station, and he has arranged a deal worth way to get rid of Rao Inderjit's name [a Gurugram-based businessman]. Narendra Bijarniya is an honest officer against him. Bijarniya bears his living expenses from his salary and he has helped the police. The Inspector General began targeting the police based on caste, and he began giving positions to corrupt people from his community," Kumar said in the video recording.

The police forensic team is currently examining Sandeep's body for follow-up in the investigation.
