Puan's Message To PIA Strengthens Wife's Support For DPR Members Amid Performance Improvements

JAKARTA - The message of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, to the wives of council members to support their partners so that they are actively part of the transformation of the DPR, received a positive response from various parties.

BRIN's Research Center for Political Research, Luky Sandra Amalia, said that the wife's support had a significant impact on her husband's decisions and work results.

"Domestic conditions have a major influence on the decisions and actions taken by men regarding their work," said Lucky, Monday, October 13.

As is known, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, gave a message to the wives of DPR members who are members of the association of the wives of members of the DPR or PIA.

To PIA, Puan asked them to support their partner so that they are actively part of the transformation of the DPR.

According to Amalia, Puan's move is quite effective by involving a partner or wife of a member of the DPR.

He then borrowed the results of a study conducted by Heikkinen and Lamsa (2016), the support of a partner is a bonus for marriage.

In the results of the study, it was also stated that there were several forms of couple support; first, what is referred to as career assistance (career assistance).

"This means that there is support from a partner who is directly related to his partner's career. For example, a couple attends social events related to their partner's work," he said.

"Well, this is what women/wife members of the DPR who are members of the Brotherhood of House Members' Wives (PIA) do. They initiated social events with their husbands' partners to support their husbands' careers, such as this mass circumcision," continued Amalia.

This PhD student at the University of Sydney also reviewed that Heikkinen and Lamsa (2016) also constructed a couple as valuable figures in building networks and social relationships that had a positive impact on her husband's career. Second, psychosocial support (psychososocial support) which indirectly affects her partner's career.

This support, according to Amalia, explicitly describes his wife as a trusted partner who supports her husband in running his career.

"Therefore, what was conveyed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives to PIA women was right on target. The wife of the DPR has a direct and indirect role in supporting her husband's career," said the female activist.

Amalia explained that Puan's support as the leader of the DPR as well as a woman could strengthen the role of the wives of DPR members to encourage her husband to carry out the transformation that is currently being carried out by the DPR RI in order to improve his performance.

"Of course, the support from the chairman of the DPR who is also a woman can strengthen each other for PIA members in the midst of the institution's efforts to carry out the transformation to improve its performance and image in society," concluded Amalia.

Previously, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, advised the brotherhood of the wives of DPR members (PIA) to always support their husbands who are in charge of carrying out the mandate of the people.

This message was conveyed by Puan while attending a mass circumcision event held by PIA in the context of the 80th Anniversary of the DPR RI at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, October 9.

Initially, Puan praised PIA's consistent steps to hold social events with various partners. The Mass Khitanan event entitled 'Together with PIA DPR RI and PT Pertamina (Persero) Building a Healthy Indonesian Generation' was attended by 100 children from the families of DPR employees.

"I also appreciate PIA choosing the form of the Mass Khitanan event for this year's event, because in Khitanan there are aspects of religion, there are cultural aspects, and there are aspects of health. Everything has merged into one," said Puan.

Puan then expressed support to the wives of DPR members or PIA. Because according to him, being a member of the DPR RI at this time is not easy, because it must accompany his partner while taking care of children in the midst of various criticisms and pressures on the DPR RI.

"There must be worry, anxiety, fear. But I believe these PIA women are tough, strong, and God willing, they can strengthen their partner members of the Indonesian House of Representatives in carrying out their duties," said Puan.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture reminded that the DPR is currently carrying out a transformation. The DPR, said Puan, is hearing criticism and input from the people which will then be followed up with various work improvements and performance through an institutional transformation effort that has started to run.

"I hope that the members of the PIA DPR RI can also continue to support their respective partners, so that they want to be active as part of the transformation of the DPR RI," the message of the first woman who served as Chair of the DPR RI.

"Because this transformation can only be carried out by mutual cooperation with all members and the extended family of the DPR RI," concluded Puan.
