AHY: Transportation Electrification Is An Example Of A Real Strategy To Realize A Sustainable Economy

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development (IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said transportation electrification is an example of a real strategy to realize a sustainable economy.

This was conveyed by AHY in his remarks at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2025 at the Jakarta Convention Center, Friday, October 10.

"The sustainable economy is the economy pushing for progress without draining the resources that support it. One of the most obvious examples of this strategy is the electrification of transportation," said AHY.

By switching from fossil fuels to electric mobility, according to AHY, Indonesia has reduced imports of fuel, eased the burden of subsidies and modernized the transportation system.

He said, until August 2025, Indonesia had sold more than 120,000 battery-based electric vehicles with a market share of around 10 percent.

According to AHY, new factories are now under construction.

In fact, he said, many of them will be fully operational next year.

"Electrification must exceed private cars. The real task is decarbonization of public transportation, logistics and freight transportation. So that every chain of movement of people and goods becomes cleaner, more efficient and resilient," he explained.
