Fired By Ulsan Hyundai, Shin Tae-yong: Really Loved

JAKARTA - The former coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong (STY), is faced with a bitter reality. After 65 days of coaching the Ulsan Hyundai club, STY was terminated.

The news of STY's dismissal was announced on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at noon local time. Ulsan's reason for ending the coach's job contract was because the team was deemed unable to rise from difficult times and is now in the threat of relegation.

Regarding his condition, Shin Tae-yong clearly regretted it. However, he admitted that he was tolerant of the decision made by Ulsan Hyundai.

"Even though suddenly, I had no choice but to follow the club's decision. I was suddenly appointed to Ulsan and did my best. However, there are many burdensome situations."

"I tried to change the team in the midst of many difficulties in Ulsan, but the challenges were very tough. It's a shame," said Shin Tae-yong as quoted by Chosun on Friday, October 10, 2025.

Shin Tae-yong was contracted by Ulsan on August 6, 2025, or exactly a day after being sacked by PSSI. He replaced the former Malaysian coach, Kim Pan-gon who was sacked on August 3, 2025.

Initially, Shin Tae-yong's work with Ulsan went smoothly. He made his debut with a win. However, after that, Ulsan did not win seven times in a row (3 draws and 4 defeats).

Of the total 10 matches, before the international break, Shin Tae-yong could only present two victories for Ulsan. This forced the coach's work in Ulsan to end.

For the time being, Ulsan is handled by Noh Sang-rae. He is a coach who is very experienced in the South Korean League (K-League 1). Noh will be the caretaker coach until he is appointed a new coach.
