Experts Call Etanol 10 Percent Safe For Vehicle Machines, Yes But

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that the government has prepared a roadmap for the use of ethanol as a mix of 10 percent gasoline fuel (BBM). Then, secure it to the vehicle engine?

Bahlil revealed that the plan to implement E10 on fuel products itself has received the blessing of President Prabowo Subianto.

"If that's the case, we'll just flat (limited meeting). After flatting, then we'll make a road map. The road map is still being made," said Bahlil, recently.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung added that the implementation of the mandatory E10 will involve various parties, including private business entities and the manager of the Public Fuel Filling Station (SPBU).

Seeing this decision, automotive expert from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) Yannes Martinus Pasaribu said the E10 mixture into gasoline (BBM) was still safe. However, it was used for modern vehicles issued in 2010 and above.

"The onset of ethanol at 10 percent fuel (E10) is generally safe in cars and motorcycle injections from 2010 and above, because the material for tubes, sea, pumps, injectors, and ECU calibrations is compatible, so the benefits are an increase in the number of octane (more resistant to knockout), reducing CO emissions," said Yannes Martinus Pasaribu, quoted on Friday, October 10.

In fact, Yannes said that if the ethanol content is 5 percent, it can still be accepted with all vehicles, both old and new models. With a note, the owner must make slight modifications related to the hose, sea, pump diaphragm which must be compatible with ethanol characteristics.

It is recommended that vehicle owners, both motorbikes and cars, return to the manufacturer's guidebook. This is to adjust what kind of fuel is suitable for the engine of the vehicle.
