Danantara's Strategy To Save KAI From Snaring Fast Train Debt

JAKARTA Danantara Indonesia is preparing a number of strategies to help PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI get out of the debt pressure of the Jakarta Fast Train project "Bandung" or bettersh. One of the preparations, the transfer of infrastructure status to government property.

COO Danantara Indonesia, Dony Oskaria, said that KAI's rescue from the debt snares of thefeedingsh high-speed rail project was carried out so that the sustainability of public transportation services was maintained, without sacrificing the huge economic potential resulting from the project.

Dony said that his party was reviewing two alternative rescue strategies. One of them is the addition of equity injection.

Furthermore, Dony explained that this option was proposed to depart from the KAl equity portion which was too small compared to the loan value to build the high-speed train project.

One option is how we add equity so that later this company becomes self-sustainable. Because operationally they are sufficient, the EBITDA is positive," he said.

Dony said, another option that is being studied is the possibility of making some KCIC infrastructure categorized as state-owned assets, as well as the Public Service Agency (BLU) model.

"There are several alternatives, including some infrastructure, maybe we will also think about whether we will make this a BLU and so on," he said.

Dony emphasized that all of KAI's alternative strategies to save KAI from the debt snares of the railway project are still waiting for the final decision from the government.

"We have proposed an option, we are waiting for a decision from the government to choose which option is the best," he said.

Dony said the government would take the best option not only to savections, but also KAI. This is because KAI serves more than 1.4 million passengers every day throughout Indonesia.

"But from one side, we also pay attention to the sustainability of KAI itself. Right because KCIC is now part of KAI, this is what we are looking for the best solution," he said.
