The Minister Of Industry Ensures The Protection Of Migrant Workers In The Industrial Sector
Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that the government continues to be committed to ensuring protection and empowerment for Indonesian industrial migrant workers, considering that migrant human resources are an integral part of economic strength.
"They bring international skills, experience, and networks that can strengthen the competitiveness of the national industry," said the Minister of Industry in a statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Thursday, October 9.
One of the steps to strengthen the protection and empowerment of Indonesian migrant workers in the country, Agus said, is that his party has collaborated with the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI/BP2MI).
The cooperation confirmed in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) includes the scope of increasing the capacity of prospective migrant workers in the manufacturing industry sector, promoting and expanding job opportunities, facilitating the placement of industrial human resources abroad, protecting and empowering industrial migrant workers, as well as exchanging data and information for more appropriate policy planning.
The Minister of Industry emphasized that collaboration with KP2MI/BP2MI is in line with the spirit of Astacita which is the direction of national development, especially in strengthening human resources, creating quality job opportunities, and reforming governance.
This collaboration also directly contributes to the implementation of Astacita, including through the creation of productive and entrepreneurial jobs, improving the quality of human resources and national development, accelerating downstream industry and increasing value, and realizing economic equality through people-based industrialization.
"Thus, this memorandum of understanding is not just an administrative document, but a tangible manifestation of Astacita's spirit in building superior Indonesian industrial people, global competitiveness, and dignifiedly protected," said the Minister of Industry.
For migrant workers who have returned to their homeland, this collaboration also opens opportunities for economic reintegration through the development of small and medium industries (IKM), cooperatives, and local industry-based entrepreneurs.
Thus, the experience and expertise of migrant workers can be used to strengthen the industrial structure in the region.
Minister of KP2MI/BP2MI Mukhtarudin said this collaboration was able to encourage and facilitate the manufacturing industry sector in the context of protecting Indonesian migrant workers.
"I express my highest appreciation to ladies and gentlemen today, who certainly provide something extraordinary for us, the Ministry of P2MI, as our step in the future is to prepare generations who will fill job opportunities abroad," he said.
As a form of follow-up to the memorandum of understanding, KP2MI signed a cooperation agreement (PKS) with the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) of the Ministry of Industry.
