PGN Hands Over CSR Assistance For 50 Garbage Carts And Incinerators To Support Waste Management In Yogyakarta

JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) as Pertamina Gas Subholding, handed over 50 waste carts of CSR and one unit of incinerator to the Yogyakarta City Government, Saturday, October 4, 2025. This initiative is a tangible manifestation of PGN's commitment to supporting the management of urban waste that is efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable through collaboration with local governments and the community.

The Mayor of Yogyakarta, Hasto Wardoyo, welcomed the initiative. According to him, corporate support such as PGN is a strategic step in accelerating the government's efforts to improve waste management, especially at the citizen level.

The company's involvement in environmental affairs is an important step. We welcome PGN's support for actively participating in efforts to maintain environmental cleanliness in the city of Yogyakarta. This assistance will be very useful for the government and citizens in accelerating waste management in residential areas," said Hasto.

Hasto said the assistance was in line with the efforts of the Yogyakarta City Government in strengthening the MAS JOS flagship program (Jogja Olah Sampah Community), a movement to encourage the active role of residents in managing waste from the source, namely households.

"MAS JOS program is a joint commitment to strengthen public awareness in reducing waste volume and managing it independently and sustainably," he said.

It is known, the daily volume of waste in the city of Yogyakarta reaches 300 tons per day, of which about 60 percent or about 180 tons are organic waste, most of which come from households. Through collaboration between governments, communities, and corporations such as PGN, it is hoped that community-based waste management can run more effectively and reduce the burden on final disposal sites.

President Director of PT Gagas Energi Indonesia (Gagas), Santiaji Gunawan, representing PGN Management, explained that PGN seeks to present real solutions that are beneficial to the community, not only through the provision of clean energy, but also through programs that support environmental sustainability.

"We believe that waste management is a shared responsibility. Through this assistance, we hope to encourage environmental cleanliness while increasing public awareness to manage waste independently," said Santiaji.

Santiaji explained that collecting garbage involving active community participation certainly requires adequate facilities so that the process runs effectively. Therefore, PGN through the CSR program distributes aid in the form of garbage carts to support collection activities at the village and community levels.

He added that every garbage cart that is distributed is equipped with a bucket as an initial forum for collection. This source can be used by residents to collect garbage from households before being collected into the cart. "We designed this assistance to be really functional and can be used directly by the community," he explained.

It does not stop there, PGN also distributes one unit of incinerator, namely a controlled high temperature waste burning facility to reduce the volume of residual waste that cannot be recycled. The incinerator has a burning capacity of between one to three tons of waste per day and is designed to be efficient and environmentally friendly.

Santiaji emphasized that PGN's commitment to sustainability was not only realized through various social and environmental programs, but also through concrete steps in developing natural gas networks (jargas) in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

"To bring a greener city of Jogja, PGN continues to encourage the use of clean energy through the development of natural gas networks. In the future, we want to be part of an energy solution that is in line with the efforts of the Yogyakarta City Government in realizing a clean, efficient, and sustainable environment," he explained.

PGN has previously built a natural gas network in the Sleman Regency, DIY, which is designed to serve up to 12.900 customers from various segments, ranging from households, small customers, to commercial sectors such as culinary businesses, hotels, and hospitals.

"With the use of natural gas, people not only get efficient and economical energy, but also contribute to reducing emissions and maintaining the quality of city air. This is a tangible manifestation of the synergy between the energy and environmental sectors to create a greener and more sustainable city," concluded Santiaji.
