BI Boss Says Indonesia Is Moving To Rank 3 Of The World Sharia Economy

JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo said that the development of Islamic economics and finance in Indonesia is showing rapid progress.

He added that in the last ten years, Indonesia's position managed to move up from 10th to 3rd in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator (GIEI).

"Indonesia is now ranked up from 10 to 3 global economies, 10 years from the 10th rank of the Indonesian Sharia Economy Fired 3rd," he said at the opening ceremony of the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) 2025, Wednesday, October 8.

This achievement was recorded in the State of the Global Islamic Economy Report 2024 2025, according to Perry, the position of Islamic economic and financial development in Indonesia is now on par with Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.

"From the ranking 10 of the Indonesian Islamic economy, it jumped to 3rd So we are competing with our brother and sister from Saudi Arabia and Malaysia The 3 biggest sharia economy in the world," he explained.

He also ensured that he would continue to encourage all stakeholders to continue to develop the sharia economy in Indonesia.

Perry said that currently, the ISEF has grown rapidly and this growth is in line with the teachings in the letter Ali Imran paragraph 103-104, which is the basis for the synergy of the Islamic economy and finance this year.

He invited all stakeholders to continue to unite in developing the Islamic economy and finance which brings grace to all nature (rahmatan lil alamin).

Dengan semangat sinergi tersebut, Perry mengajak seluruh pihak untuk bersatu dan tidak terbagai dalam membangun sistem ekonomi dan keuangan syariah yang membawa kerahmatan bagi seluruh alam (rahmatan lil alamin).

"We raise the collaboration of all of us, the government and all K/L, BI, OJK, MUI, Islamic Boarding Schools, financial institutions in congregation continue to encourage Indonesia as the center of sharia economy and finance," he said.

He also expressed optimism for the future of the Indonesian sharia economy, especially because this sector has become part of the main national development strategy by being included in the Long Medium-Term Development Plan document or RPJMN 2025-2029.

"And thank God in the RPJMN that the Islamic financial economy is part of the main strategy to become the center of the sharia economy and ISEF is the platform to present future programs," he said.

He also hopes that the ISEF will continue to develop in a better direction, both in the next one year and in the next five years.
