BKPM Calls Danantara Potentially Entering Carbon Storage Projects
JAKARTA - The government assesses that the Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI) has the potential to invest in carbon storage projects in line with Indonesia's increasing focus on developing carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology in Indonesia.
Deputy for Investment Promotion of the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, Nurul Ichwan said Danantara has an interest in encouraging projects included in the list of national strategic projects (PSN).
"The possibility in my opinion is that Danantara has an interest in it. Because one of the Danantara is to encourage national strategic projects. But with a note, he is also profitable," said Nurul when met in the South Jakarta area, Tuesday, October 7.
According to Nurul, the CCS project is part of the government's efforts to increase Indonesia's competitiveness at the international level. Moreover, countries that are able to produce clean energy will certainly have a strategic position in the world's green economy.
"This CCS is part of the government's efforts to create Indonesia's competitiveness. Some countries that can produce clean energy products, then surely this CCS can be a concern," he said.
Nurul said the investment assessment mechanism started from an internal assessment of the Ministry of Investment. The analysis will be carried out based on economic and environmental impacts.

Furthermore, Nurul said that if the analysis process was completed and had a big impact on the state, the project would be submitted to Danantara.
"Later, the Danantara will explore it again, review it until later they have an agreement whether they will infiltrate or not. But at first the process was a lot of projects that are being carried out now in the Danantara, initially it was through us," he said.
"The minister is also the CEO of Danantara (Rosan Roeslani) too. So our coordination is very nice so far," he continued.
