Fallen Tree In South Tangerang Jombang Overwhelmed By Stalls And Injured Residents

SOUTH TANGERANG Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds caused two large trees to fall in the area of Jalan Jombang Raya, Pondok Pucung, Pondok Aren District, South Tangerang, Tuesday, October 7. One of the trees hit a food stall on the side of the road, causing a resident to be injured.

The incident occurred at around 14.30 WIB, when the weather suddenly turned extreme. Strong winds made the trunk of a large tree on the side of the road unable to withstand the load of wet branches until it finally collapsed on the shop building and part of the road.

"The injured victims have been taken to the nearest health center for treatment. Currently BPBD, TNI, and Polri officers are evacuating tree trunks so that the road can be returned," said Head of South Tangerang BPBD, Uci Sanusi, when confirmed by reporters, Tuesday afternoon.

As a result of the incident, the traffic flow on Jalan Jombang Raya was jammed for almost a kilometer. In addition, the electric cable that is attracted to the tree trunk also makes the electric pole tilt, raising fears of a potential short circuit around the location.

PLN officers have come to the location to ensure the electricity is safe and temporarily turn off the current around the fallen tree area, Uci added.

Until the afternoon, joint officers were still cleaning up the remaining branches and tree trunks. The South Tangerang City Government appealed to residents to be vigilant when heavy rain accompanied by wind, especially in areas that are mostly overgrown with large trees or near the electricity grid.
