OpenAI Uses AMD GPU For New Generation AI Infrastructure Development
JAKARTA - OpenAI announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with AMD, to support OpenAI's next-generation AI infrastructure by using AMD's GPU generations.
In its official announcement, OpenAI stated that this collaboration will begin with the implementation of 1 Ggawatt GPU AMD Instinct MI450 in the second half of 2026.
Through this agreement, OpenAI appointed AMD as its main computing partner to be expected to encourage the implementation of AMD GPU technology on a large scale, from the MI450 series to the next generation.
The two companies will share technical expertise to optimize product roadmaps, strengthening collaborations that previously started with the MI300X and MI350X series.
"This partnership brings together the best of AMD and OpenAI to create mutually beneficial solutions, enabling the world's most ambitious AI development and advancing the entire AI ecosystem," said Lisa Su, chairman and CEO of AMD.
As part of the cooperation, AMD also provides OpenAI with warrant rights of up to 160 million AMD shares, which will be given in stages in line with the achievement of certain technical, commercial, and share-price targets.
