Kroos Is Positive COVID-19, Absent On The Determining Match Of Madrid Contra Villarreal
JAKARTA - Toni Kross will not be strengthening Real Madrid who is chasing the Spanish League title in a game they must win against Villarreal. The German midfielder was declared positive for COVID-19.
Real Madrid, as quoted by Antara from Reuters on Monday, announced that Kroos' COVID-19 test was positive on Monday. He was also absent during his team's Sunday win over host Athletic Club after making direct contact with someone who contracted the virus.
"Real Madrid C. F. announced that our player, Toni Kroos, was declared positive in the COVID-19 test he underwent today," the club's statement said.
"Kroos has been in isolation since Friday 14 May after making direct contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19."
Real Madrid is now second in the Spanish League standings, two points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, ahead of their decisive final home game against seventh-placed Villarreal next Saturday.
At the same time, Atletico will travel to Real Valladolid who is struggling to avoid relegation. Victory would guarantee their first league crown since 2013-14.
Kroos has been a member of Zinedine Zidane's first-team squad this season, scoring three goals in 42 games in all competitions.
