Rehabilitation Of Tingal Irrigation Network In Central Java It Is Hoped That It Will Be Completed In December 2025

JAKARTA - The government continues to accelerate the rehabilitation work for phase II of the secondary irrigation network of the Tingal Irrigation Region (DI) in Temanggung Regency, Central Java Province.

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) reports that until the end of September 2025, the physical progress of rehabilitation has reached 60 percent and is targeted for completion by the end of December 2025.

The second phase of the rehabilitation of the DI Tingal secondary irrigation network aims to strengthen the agricultural water supply system in Geblog and Keblukan villages with a service area of about 100 hectares (ha).

Network improvements are carried out to ensure that water flow can reach all productive land, especially during the dry season and the third planting period (MT III), so that the distribution of water to rice fields becomes more efficient and equitable.

Technically, the rehabilitation work of DI Tingal Phase II includes the construction of a 125-meter-long dam main channel with a soil protection wall, a floodgate house and a 664-meter (m)-long right secondary channel and a 45-m drainage channel.

In addition, in the left channel a tilted sewer was built along 85 m, a 85 m soil retaining wall, a 50 m Talang irrigation building and a door housing unit for water discharge regulation.

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said that the rehabilitation of irrigation canals is part of the efforts of the Ministry of Public Works so that agricultural water flows can reach the farthest rice fields. Thus, it is hoped that farmer productivity can increase.

"Our obligation is to ensure that the water flows to the fields, both primary, secondary and tertiary. There should be no leakage, so that it is truly beneficial for farmers," said Dody in an official statement quoted on Monday, October 6.

The infrastructure support for the agricultural sector is carried out by the Serayu Opak River Basin Center (BBWS) of the Directorate General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works with the implementing contractor PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero).

With a better irrigation system, it is hoped that it can support agricultural productivity in the upstream area of the Progo watershed and maintain the continuity of water supply to reduce dependence on rainfall and increase national food production capacity, especially at the Temanggung agricultural center.
