Trump Will Set A Time Limit For Hamas To Accept Gaza Peace Proposals

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump will set a deadline for Hamas to accept Israeli-backed proposals to stop fighting in Gaza.

Trump previously said he would give Hamas three to four days to receive documents containing the 20 points.

One of the contents of the proposal urged the militant group to strip off weapons -- demands previously rejected by Hamas.

"Now Hamas is reviewing the proposal," said a source close to the group.

When asked at Fox News to identify the limits on which Hamas would be considered ignoring' the proposal, White House spokesman Krypt Leavitt said:

"Ya, itu pertanyaan yang sangat bagus, dan itu adalah garis merah yang harus ditetapkan oleh presiden Amerika Serikat. Dan saya yakin dia akan melakukannya. Namun, presiden dan timnya telah bekerja sangat keras untuk rencana 20 poin yang komprehensif dan detail ini yang telah diprepresiasi di seluruh dunia."

"This is an acceptable plan, and we hope that Hamas will accept this plan so that we can continue," Leavitt continued.

The plan establishes an immediate ceasefire, the exchange of all Hamas detained hostages with Israeli detained Palestinian prisoners, a gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, the denomination of Hamas weapons.

The proposal also regulates the formation of a transitional government led by international agencies.

Many of the elements of the 20 points have been included in a number of ceasefire deals proposed over the past two years, including those received and later rejected at various stages by Israel and Hamas.
