Rio Dewanto Tries Relevant With Malin Kundan's Dark Legend

JAKARTA - Rio Dewanto became the main character in the debut of directors Ravki Hidayat and Kevin Rahardjo, Malin Kundang's Dark Legend. In this film he plays Alif, a man who is faced with the arrival of his mother.

The challenge is more of a modern approach and tries to be relevant to people's efforts. This people's story is hundreds of years in Indonesia and can't wait," Rio Dewanto said in an interview session in South Jakarta on Wednesday, September 1.

Rio plays a micro painter who draws in a small medium. In this film, Rio only trains so that he doesn't look amateurish as a painter.

"Incidentally, the art team has prepared it. It is not a must to learn but at least know the technique and the media using small objects such as pebbles, finished rice so it doesn't get messy," he explained.

He duet with actress Faradina Mufti as a married couple. The two initially thought what folklore could be interpreted in the modern world.

"That's why when someone wants to be told, it's interesting what kind or what it's made differently is equally relevant. The trailer doesn't look 100% the same," said Faradina Mufti.

"When I first heard about this project, it's interesting, isn't it? The story is a legend but a modern approach," added Rio Dewanto.

Malin Kundang's Dark Legend Film will premiere on November 27, 2025 in Indonesian cinemas.
