JAKARTA - Andrea Meza was crowned Miss Universe 2020 on Sunday, May 16, U.S. time. Representing Mexico, Meza received the crown from Zozibini Tunzi, Miss Universe 2019.
Defeated 73 contestants from various countries at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
"I am honored to be chosen among the 73 wonderful women who stood with me tonight. A dream come true wearing the Miss Universe crown," she told CNN International on Monday, May 17.
Through her Instagram, Meza uploaded a photo with the caption Mexico Esto Es Para Ti or Mexico, this is for you guys.
Andrea Meza was born on August 13, 1994 in Chihuahua City with her parents and two younger siblings. Graduating from school, Meza began working as a software engineer and became a model.
She is also active as a makeup artist and activist. With all her activities, Meza actively works with the Municipal Institute for Women to end gender-based violence.
Her modeling career began when she was selected to represent Chihuahua at Miss World Mexico 2016. Later, she participated in Miss World 2017 and was runner-up. Meza became a Brand Ambassador for Chihuahua.
In 2020, Meza was awarded the Mexicana Universal Chihuahua 2020 and represented Mexico at miss Universe 2020. This event was delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Andrea Meza became the third Mexican woman to win Miss Universe after Lupita Jones and Ximena Navarrete. With this victory, Meza will move to New York to begin her activities as Miss Universe 2020.
