Mount Lewotobi Men Erupt 2 Times, Spewing Volcanic Ash 5,000 Meters
JAKARTA - Mount Lewotobi Male located in East Flores Regency (Flotim), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) erupted twice on Wednesday, October 1 afternoon.
Based on information issued by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) quoted by Antara, the two eruptions occurred at 14.30 WITA and 14.58 WITA.
In the report, the height of the ash column for the first eruption was observed at approximately 5,000 meters above the peak or approximately 6,584 meters above sea level.
The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the west and northwest.
The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 mm and a temporary duration of approximately one minute 26 seconds.
The eruption was accompanied by a strong bang and was heard at the Men's Lewotobi PGA Post.
In the second eruption, the height of the ash column of the eruption was observed to be approximately 2,000 meters above the peak or approximately 3,584 meters above sea level. The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the west and northwest.

The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 22.2 mm and a temporary duration of approximately four minutes 12 seconds.
Meanwhile, currently Mount Lewotobi Men are at Level III (Alert) Status, therefore, the public and visitors are advised not to carry out any activities within a six km radius of the Men's Lewotobi Mountain eruption center.
The public is also advised to be calm and follow the directions of the local government and not to believe in issues whose sources are unclear.
People around Mount Lewotobi Male are asked to be aware of the potential for rain lava flooding in rivers that originate at the top of Mount Lewotobi Men in the event of high-intensity rain, especially the areas of Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Nu Selapolen, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, and Nawakote villages.
People affected by the ash rain of Mount Lewotobi Male are also asked to wear masks or nose coverings to avoid the danger of volcanic ash in the respiratory system.
