Kaspersky Finds Deepfake Service Prices On Darknet Cheaper
JAKARTA - The Kaspersky Global Research and Analysis Team (GREAT) has found advertisements on the darknet that offers video and real-time audio deepfake services at lower prices, starting from 50 US dollars (Rp834 thousand) for fake videos and 30 US dollars (Rp500 thousand) for fake voice messages.
"We are not only seeing advertisements that offer 'deepfake-as-a-service', but also a clear request for these tools," said Dmitry Galov, head of Kaspersky's Global Research and Analysis Team in Russia and CIS in a statement.
Previously, Kaspersky had identified deepfake manufacturing services on the darknet platform at costs ranging from US$300 (Rp5 million) to US$20,000 (Rp333 million) per minute.
The ads feature several options, including real-time face exchange during video calls on video conferencing platforms or instant messaging apps, face replacement for verification, and camera feed replacement on devices.
The authors of the post claim that they can provide software that synchronizes a person's facial expression in videos with text, even in foreign languages, along with tools for voice cloning. However, most likely this ad constitutes fraud.
"While this technology does not present a fundamental new cyber threat, this technology can significantly enhance the attacker's capabilities," added Dmitry.
