Amanda Caesa Tells Toxic Relationships In Soothing Bossa Nova Rhythms
JAKARTA - Amanda Caesa offers a refreshing take on the story of a toxic relationship. Through her single, "Trouble," Amanda recounts a bitter experience set to a soothing bossa nova beat.
"Trouble" tells the story of someone trapped in a toxic relationship, characterized by a one-sided obsession with their partner, but finding it difficult to break free because of the inner struggle between logic that wants to end it and a heart that still hopes," Amanda explained in a written statement on September 26.
Amanda acknowledged that personal experiences and those close to her inspired her latest song. This allowed her to create a more personal, relatable touch.
Syahravi Dewanda was involved in the production of the single "Trouble." Interestingly, the song was composed in just one day during a casual jam session. Choosing bossa nova was something Amanda wanted to try as a form of exploration.
"It was perfect. At the time, I was into Laufey's songs and was amazed by how he conveyed emotions through simple, yet deeply meaningful lyrics. That made me want to try something more experimental, yet still personal," she explained.
Different from her previous releases, this admirer of local musicians Sal Priadi and Teddy Adhitya showcases a more vulnerable side with "Trouble." In addition to personal and honest lyrics, Amanda also experiments with a blend of bossa nova, jazz, and pop, which she believes best conveys the emotions and stories of her songs.
"I'm really happy to be able to explore this type of music. However, because my interests are constantly changing and I'm quite curious, I'm not ruling out trying other genres. But, it all comes down to the listeners. If this genre is well-received, I'll stick with it."
Amanda hopes that through her new single, more people will become interested in her work, as well as feeling an emotional connection and being curious about what she has to offer in the future.
"I think "Trouble" is a teaser or introduction to my upcoming release, which will definitely bring new colors, but still be consistent with my character as a musician. And, through this single, I also want to convey the message that being in a one-way relationship is very draining. So, I want to gather people who have been or are currently in this phase to listen to my song and realize together that something that hurts us is actually a problem (trouble)," she concluded.
