Deputy Head Of Legislative Council Of The House Of Representatives Ensures That The Bill On Indigenous Community Laws Will Not Be Introduction To Investment

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the Indonesian House of Representatives Ahmad Iman Sukri ensured that the Bill on the Indigenous Law Community would not interfere with the investment climate. According to him, the bill will be prepared properly, so that it can protect the public and not harm investors.

Iman revealed that so far the Bill on Indigenous Laws has led to pros and cons, so that it has not yet been discussed and ratified. In fact, there is an excessive fear that the bill will later hinder investment.

"There are concerns that this bill will disrupt investment, because it will regulate land matters. Of course we will try to make the bill acceptable to all parties and not harm investment," said Iman to reporters, Saturday, September 27.

Iman also ensured that the DPR Baleg would apply a moderate formula in drafting the Bill on Indigenous Law Communities, so as not to make it difficult for the government, provide protection for indigenous peoples, and make investors feel safe to invest in Indonesia.

Baleg, said Iman, is trying to draft a Bill on Indigenous Law Communities. He said the DPR Expert Body was drafting an academic paper (NA) which would be the basis for making the bill.

"We have also gone down to several areas to observe and absorb information related to obstacles and problems faced by indigenous peoples. This is an important note for us," said the PKB legislator from the East Java VII electoral district.

Iman said that the DPR Baleg had also held hearings (RDP) with various public addresses, including NGOs, academics, experts, and a number of other parties. Baleg is very open in receiving input, criticism, and suggestions from the public.

In addition to listening to input from the public, his party also plans to make a working visit abroad. One of them is to Brazil. The country has a fairly large customary forest, as well as indigenous law communities that still survive.

The member of the PKB faction said that his party would try hard so that the Bill on Indigenous Law Communities could be discussed and later ratified. Although it is not easy because there are many obstacles faced, he will invite all levels of society to support the bill.

"PKB is of the view that the ratification of this bill is not only an ordinary legislative agenda, but rather a strategic and urgent step to overcome legal inequality and realize true social justice for indigenous peoples," concluded Iman.
