Foreign Minister's Reflection At The United Nations: Indonesian Diplomacy Is Friendship Diplomacy

JAKARTA Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that Indonesia's participation in the Week of the High Level of the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) is an important momentum to strengthen friendship diplomacy with all countries.

He made this statement at a media briefing at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, Friday, September 26, exactly five days from the start of a high-level session.

"We want to remain friends to all, without creating enemies, especially among neighbors," said Sugiono.

He explained that President Prabowo Subianto's inaugural speech at the General Assembly of the United Nations was a sign that Indonesia was ready to play a role as a bridge for peace as well as a communicator for various parties.

Two days after the speech, Sugiono admitted that he still received congratulations from a number of foreign ministers. In addition, several countries also invited Indonesia to become co-chairs in a number of international meetings, affirming Indonesia's strategic position in the eyes of the world.

"Attention for Indonesia is increasing. This is a new stretch," he said.

Similar support also came from the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres who conveyed directly to President Prabowo that Indonesia's foreign policy is now showing a new spirit.

According to Sugiono, the various positive responses received emphasized the sustainability of the principle of Indonesian diplomacy, which is based on friendship, openness, and national interests.

"We will continue to align Indonesia's involvement in global forums, with a focus on strategic issues, fighting for national interests, as well as building bridges between countries," he added.

The Week of the High Level of the 80th UN General Assembly will take place on September 22, 2025, presenting world leaders discussing various global issues, including peace, sustainable development, and international governance.
