Erdogan Agrees With Trump On Ceasefire For Peace In Gaza

JAKARTA - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he reached an understanding with US President Donald Trump on how to reach a ceasefire and lasting peace in Gaza and Palestine after negotiations at the White House.

"Our meeting was very important in terms of expressing determination to end the massacre in Gaza. Trump stated at the meeting the need to end the fighting in Gaza and achieve lasting peace," Erdogan told reporters according to a transcript shared by his office on Friday, September 26.

"We explain how a ceasefire can be reached in Gaza and throughout Palestine, and peace is eternal afterward. An understanding is reached there," Erdogan said.

"We say that a two-state solution is a formula for eternal peace in this region, and that the current situation cannot continue," he continued.

Erdogan also said the participation of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in the United Nations General Assembly was critical to the global legitimacy of the new Syrian government.
