Talking About Leaders' Communication Styles At Unpad, Pramono Admitted That He Heard All Community Criticisms

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo attended a public lecture at Padjadjaran University (Unpad), West Java, regarding public communication between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

Pramono admitted that the communication style he applied in leading Jakarta, namely communicating with the heart and listening to input and criticism from residents.

"Communication is an option, we can choose what kind of emotions or something like. Well, I choose to communicate and solve various problems with my heart and listen to all criticism or input from the community," said Pramono, Friday, September 26.

Pramono explained, every input from residents is always a serious concern. He gave an example of public complaints on social media about the Cikini Station fence which was considered a hassle for KRL users to enter the station.

"When a lot of people give input on social media so that the fence at Cikini Station makes it difficult for public transportation users (KRL) because they have to go long and jump over the fence, I try to check directly in the field and ask for the fence to be opened and made a ticket crossing. After that, the community is grateful because it turns out that this problem has not been handled for a dozen years. Even though it's simple, "explained Pramono.

A similar case occurred on Jalan TB Simatupang. Congestion due to infrastructure work sparked complaints from residents. Pramono then asked for a toll road to be opened for free to the public until the project was completed in October.

"From the reports I received so far, it has succeeded in reducing the congestion rate by 20 percent," he said.

In addition to responding to complaints, Pramono alluded to the efforts of the DKI Provincial Government to expand public transportation services. He inaugurated Transjabodetabek at the same rates as Transjakarta, Rp. 3,500, even Rp. 2,000 during peak hours. This bus connects Jakarta with Bekasi, Depok, Tangerang, to PIK.

"Alhamdulillah, the latest survey in 2025, public transportation in Jakarta is ranked 17th out of 50 global cities, and number 2 in Southeast Asia, only under Singapore. Jakarta is already above Bangkok, Manila, and Kuala Lumpur," he said.

In the public lecture, Pramono also mentioned the importance of education as the key to getting out of the poverty chain. He said the DKI Provincial Government had distributed 707,513 KJP + scholarships for elementary to high school levels, as well as KJMU for undergraduate, doctoral, and doctoral students.

"We have prepared 100 quotas for Jakarta residents that we will pay for in full, such as LPDP to study abroad," said Pramono.

He linked this policy with his experience while studying. I also felt that, if I didn't get a scholarship at ITB at that time, I couldn't have done it until now," he added.

According to Pramono, an inclusive style of communication allows him to maintain good relations with various parties, including the DKI Jakarta DPRD. The principle is simple, namely giving people according to their portion so that communication runs smoothly.

Meanwhile, the Chancellor of Padjadjaran University, Arief S. Kartasasmita, said that Pramono's presence as an alumni of Fikom Unpad was an example for students.

"On campus there are usually many theories, but today we can learn from direct practice in the field from what Pak Pramono did in Jakarta," said Arief.

Chairman of the Communication Sciences Study Program Fikom Unpad Kunto S. Wibowo added that Pramono's communication style emphasized his hearing ability, not just talking.

"From the example of Governor Pramono, this listening ability is important for everyone, especially public officials, so that they can create policies that have an impact," he said.
