Skills For Karawang Youth Enter The World Of Work

JAKARTA - Entering the era of global competition, the world of work demands more than just diplomas. The younger generation now needs to have complete skills ranging from technical skills, soft skills, to direct experience in the field to be ready to face challenges as well as be able to compete professionally.

This awareness prompted the presence of various structured job training initiatives in the regions, including in Karawang, West Java. One of them is through the Young Generation of the Cemerlang Industrial Competent (GEMILANG), which is a training platform that connects young people with the industrial world through basic training, certification, to real work practices.

The inauguration of this program took place on September 17, 2025 in Karawang, attended by Deputy Regent of Karawang H. Maslani, Head of the Manpower and Transmigration Service Rosmalia Dewi, Executive Director of SwissCham Sarah Suhartono, Country Director of Swisscontact Karen Alexandria, Program Manager of Swiss Skills for Competitiveness (SS4C) Daniel Weibel, and the management of partner companies.

"This is a tangible manifestation of our commitment to empowering the younger generation to be ready to work and have competitiveness. We believe that building the nation starts from providing equal opportunities and access to quality education and training," said Sufintri Rahayu, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Nestle Indonesia.

Previously, this briefing had been carried out in Batang Regency in 2023. In Karawang it lasted for nine months with three stages, namely, basic training at the learning center, national certified training with the Indonesian University of Education (UPI), and direct practice at industrial factories.

Deputy Regent of Karawang, H. Maslani, emphasized the importance of this opportunity for young people in his area.

"We welcome the collaboration with Nestversus Indonesia in presenting the GEMILANG Program in Karawang. This program is in line with our vision to create superior Karawang human resources and ready to face industrial challenges. Through structured and certified training, we hope that young Karawang can increase competitiveness and contribute significantly to regional development.

Participants from this program are graduates of SMA/SMK Karawang from various majors who have successfully passed the selection. They will be equipped with technical skills, character strengthening, and the opportunity to obtain national certification from BNSP in five fields, namely Pneumatics, Ukur & Hand Equipment, Hydrolik, Electricity, and Transmission Elements.

More than that, the provision of this skill is not just technical training, but an effort to form a strong and adaptive future professional.

This initiative also contributes to achieving national development goals, especially in supporting the 2045 Golden Indonesia Vision through strengthening the quality of young workers who are competent and certified.

Director of Human Resources Nestle Indonesia, Fahrul Irvanto, added that empowering local talents is one of the foundations for building a strong and competitive workforce.

"Through strategic collaboration with various parties, we open up real opportunities for the younger generation to develop," he concluded.
