Foreign Minister Sugiono Affirms Gaza's Future Must Belong To The Palestinian People
JAKARTA - Palestinian Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that the future of the Gaza Strip must belong to the Palestinian people, reminding the ceasefire must be reached first and that becomes essential.
This was conveyed by Foreign Minister Sugiono at the "High-Level Meeting on the Day After and Stabilization Efforts in Gaza" on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, United States on Tuesday local time.
The meeting, chaired by French Foreign Minister Jean-No Total Barrrot, discussed a proposal for the formation of an international stabilization mission under the United Nations to help secure and rebuild Gaza.
In a statement, Foreign Minister Sugiono stressed that the ceasefire should be a top priority as well as an essential first step for "day after" in Gaza.
"Without peace on the ground, no plans can work. Ceasefire is a prerequisite for all future efforts," said Foreign Minister Sugiono, launching a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wednesday, September 24.
Foreign Minister Sugiono further underlined, "the day after" must also mean the end of the occupation.
"Indonesia is ready to contribute to the peace mission under the auspices of the United Nations, with a clear and strong mandate to protect civilians, ensure unrestricted humanitarian access, and strengthen regional stability," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
He emphasized that Gaza's future must remain a process led and owned by the Palestinian people.
