Kate Bush Releases Another Rare Compilation Album, Best Of The Other Sides
JAKARTA - After massive fan demand, legendary musician Kate Bush has finally announced the release of her latest compilation album, "Best Of The Other Sides," which will be released digitally on Friday, September 26th, followed by a CD and vinyl release on October 31st via the Fish People label.
This compilation is a response to requests from fans who missed out on the original version of "The Other Sides," which was previously released in limited edition in 2018 as part of Kate Bush's definitive remastering project. The original edition includes B-sides and additional songs that have never appeared on any of her studio albums.
"The Other Sides" features a special collection of songs, including remastered 12-inch versions of iconic hits like "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)," "The Big Sky," "Cloudbusting," "Hounds of Love," and "Experiment IV."
Additionally, there's a compelling collection of B-sides, including "Walk Straight Down The Middle" (1989), "You Want Alchemy" (1993), "Be Kind To My Mistakes" (1989), "Under The Ivy" (1985), and "Ne T'enfuis Pas" (1982). The album even includes the song "Lyra," taken from the soundtrack to The Golden Compass.
Despite reaching number 18 on the UK charts, the 2018 edition of the album is no longer available. However, thanks to fan enthusiasm, "The Best Of" has finally been remastered. Details of the tracklist will be announced soon, but Bush has confirmed that at least three songs have been specially remastered for this latest release.
The release of "Best Of The Other Sides" adds to Kate Bush's busy schedule. Previously, the "Wuthering Heights" singer also announced a self-directed animated short film titled "Little Shrew."
The film reportedly focuses on the metaphor of children in war, told through the story of a small mouse in a conflict-torn city. The soundtrack is taken from the song "Snowflake," from the album "50 Words For Snow" (2011).
In addition to the animated film project, Bush has also strongly hinted at returning to writing music. Last year, she admitted she was very excited to start working on new material.
"I have a lot of ideas, and I'm really looking forward to getting back into that creative space. It's been a long time coming," Bush said when announcing "Little Shrew" in October 2024.
When asked if the intention to return to music had been brewing for a while, Kate Bush replied, "Yes, it's true. Especially in the last year, I've felt really ready to start doing something new."
Despite her busy studio schedule, one thing that remains a mystery is the possibility of Kate Bush returning to the live stage. Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, the man who helped Kate Bush launch her career, said last fall that only one person could convince her to perform again: himself.
Since the beginning of her career, Kate Bush has been notoriously reluctant to perform in public. She has only performed with David Gilmour twice, in 1987 and 2002.
