JAKARTA - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin gave simple directions on how to enjoy fruit. Through a video on his official Instagram account @bgsadikin, he asked a light question, it's better to eat fruit in the form of pieces or process it into juice?
The Minister of Health said that both have their own advantages. The choice depends on the needs of the body.
"For digestive health, it is better for us to eat cut fruit, because the fiber is still intact. But if you need fast and practical energy, fruit juice can be an option because it is easier for the body to absorb," explained the Minister of Health, as quoted from his Instagram account.
He added that cut fruit is rich in fiber which is useful for maintaining the health of the digestive tract. On the other hand, the fruit used as juice will decrease its fiber and the sugar content will increase, so that energy can be obtained more quickly.
"If you run regularly, for example, run morning or evening, an additional energy from simple carbohydrates such as sugar is needed. The natural version can be obtained from fruit juice, especially fruit that is high in sugar, such as bananas, mangoes, or apples," he said.
Even so, the Minister of Health reminded the dangers of consuming excessive juice, especially for those who rarely have physical activities.
"If you like drinking fruit juice, although natural is not a pack, but not routine exercise, you can gain weight. For people with high blood sugar, you should also choose cut fruit, don't push it. Choose low sugar fruit with high water levels," he added.
