Maluku Police Ensure Legal Process Of Brimob Persons Persecuting Residents

AMBON - Maluku Regional Police (Polda) take firm action against Brimob members who were involved in the persecution of residents in East Seram Regency (SBT).

"This case is being handled by a joint team from the Maluku Police Propam and the Brimob Provos," said Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Police, Kombes Pol Rositah Umasugi, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 23.

He stated that his party regretted the actions of dozens of Brimob Company 3 members Battalion B who were suspected of carrying out the persecution.

He emphasized that this act would not be tolerated.

"The Regional Police Chief has immediately ordered the Dansat Brimob and Head of Provos Village together with the Maluku Police Paminal Bid Propam team to go to SBT to handle and thoroughly investigate the alleged mistreatment of the residents," he said.

According to him, every police officer who is proven to have violated the law will be processed according to the rules.

"The Maluku Police will not protect people who are proven to have made mistakes. It must be processed according to applicable regulations," he asserted.

He also asked the public to remain calm and not be easily provoked.

"Anyone involved in the persecution must be dealt with. But we ask the public to contain emotions. The initial case is also being handled by the SBT Police. In principle, we will be open and continue to solve this problem," said Rositah.

Previously, two families in Bula City, East Seram Regency (SBT) were suspected of being victims of violence by 11 members of Brimob Company 3 Yon B Pioneer on Monday (22/9/2025).

One of the victims of Jamina Rumadedey (26) explained that the incident began at around 10:20 WIT. At that time, Abdul Haji Rumaday (30), one of the victims, was at his house, suddenly 11 people suspected of being Brimob.

There was an argument between them, which ultimately led to the beating by dozens of Brimob personnel against the entire family inside the house.

The action caused the victims to suffer injuries. After the incident, the victim along with about 100 residents immediately went to Company Headquarters 3 Yon B Pioneer.

Meanwhile, the Head of the SBT Resort Police (Kapolres) AKBP Alhajat revealed that the incident of persecution by dozens of Brimob members started from a misunderstanding.

Initially at the wedding party, Sunday (21/9/2025) there was a member of Brimob who was abused by a number of people.

"Actually, this is just a misunderstanding. When there was a wedding party, it hit each other," said the Police Chief.

The situation then heated up when a Brimob member was reportedly beaten by several people at the party location.

Feeling disapproved, the Brimob members tried to find the perpetrators, but to no avail.

"This afternoon, Brimob members came directly to the house of the alleged perpetrator. There, there was a beating," he explained.

The police are currently focusing on efforts to defuse the situation and calm the crowd.

"What is clear is that there was a misunderstanding. Now, thank God, the situation has calmed down. Earlier I received the victim's family in the room. They left the process to the legal process which will be continued by Dansat Brimob," he said.
