Prevent Floods, Kudus Regency Government Builds 35 Waterway Drainage-Normalization Points This Year

JAKARTA - The Kudus Regency Government (Pemkab) through the Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) this year targets the construction and repair of culverts at 35 points as an effort to reduce the potential for puddles in a number of flood-prone areas.

"The number of points for the construction of drainage channels is spread across various regions, from the total existing work packages, both large and small," said Acting (Plt) Head of the Kudus PUPR Service Harry Wibowo in Kudus, Monday, as quoted by Antara.

For this year, he continued, of the dozens of large programs, there are two packages. Meanwhile, those that are already running are Jalan Asnawi and Jalan Jenderal Sudirman. In addition, there is also work on Jalan Kudus Kaliwungu, Jalan Subekan ZE, Pedawang 'Dersalam, to Golantepus, Mejobo.

In addition, he said, in the 2025 Revised APBD there were also two major projects that came in, namely to repair drainage channels on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and Jalan Asnawi.

In addition to the construction of drainage channels, he said, according to the community's proposal, a channel normalization program was also carried out in various locations. This follows the high sedimentation, both from households and markets, which reduces the capacity of water flow.

"Normalization is carried out together with sub-districts and local residents so that the infrastructure that has been built can be more optimal," he said.

With the construction of drainage channels and normalization, he said, flood inundation that often occurs in the rainy season can be reduced by between 50' 60 percent from before.

In total, the length of the culverts built this year reaches about 2.5 kilometers. Meanwhile, for normalization, the channel is targeted to be 5 kilometers long.

The majority of jobs, he said, are focused on inundation points because the location is in a concave area, so they are trying to find the right downstream so that the flow can run more smoothly.
