Public Prosecutor Demands Death Penalty For Online Taxi Driver Killer In Bantul
JAKARTA - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Bantul District Attorney for the Special Region of Yogyakarta demanded the death penalty for Yoga Andry (30), a defendant in the murder of online taxi driver Juremi (64) in the Taman Wetan Village, Banguntapan.
"We, the Public Prosecutor in this case, are demanding, punishing the defendant Yoga Andry with the death penalty," said Public Prosecutor Embun Sumunaringtyas while reading out the charges at the trial of the case at the Bantul District Court (PN), Monday, confiscated by Antara.
According to the prosecutor, the death penalty was brought down after the Public Prosecutor considered various considerations that weighed on the defendant Yoga, including the defendant who had been proven to have committed premeditated murder using an iron hammer.
"Then the defendant's actions disturbed the community, and the defendant did not apologize to the victim's family," he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Judge Eko Arief Wibowo after reading the demands asked the defendant if there was a defense against the death charges imposed by the prosecutor, but the defendant accepted the charges.
"I'm sorry. I am very sorry and realize my actions and will not repeat them again. I will always remember the message and the mandate of the family to always pray during prayer. I will carry it out every day until the end of my life," said Yoga Andry.
After that, the Chief Justice of the Court said that the follow-up trial with the agenda of the decision on the murder of the online taxi driver will be held on October 6, 2025.
Meanwhile, the legal adviser for victim R Anwar Ari Widodo assessed that the prosecutor's demands were in accordance with the family's sense of justice, and expressed appreciation and at the same time hoped that the panel of judges would grant the claim.
"Apresiasi terhadap jaksa penuntut umum, dengan tuntutan hukuman mati ini, jaksa benar-benar bisa merasakan apa yang dirasakan oleh keluarga korban," katanya.

He said that the demand for the death penalty against the perpetrators of the murder reflected the seriousness of the legal apparatus in upholding justice.
"I thank all Adhyaksa ranks, both in Bantul, DIY, and at the Attorney General's Office. This is an important step so that the perpetrator can be held accountable for his actions," he said.
The victim's fourth child, Toni Santosa, said the defendant's actions were sadistic and could not be tolerated. Therefore, the family left it entirely to the panel of judges in order to impose the harshest sentence.
"Thank you to the Bantul court. The point is that from us the victim's family, the perpetrator must be sentenced to death," he said.
