Realistic Target Of Indonesia, Aim For 46 Golds At SEA Games 2025

JAKARTA Indonesia has a realistic target of chasing 46 gold medals at the 2025 SEA Games at the end of the year because it adjusts to the budget for contingent delivery.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Erick Thohir after holding a meeting with the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) in Jakarta on Monday, September 22, 2025.

"So this was together with NOC Indonesia with their respective review teams for what we talked about with the sport of potential gold to survive," said Erick after the meeting.

Indonesia previously brought home 87 gold medals from the last SEA Games in Cambodia in 2023. This number makes the Red-White team in third place in the final standings for medals.

Erick said that this achievement was most likely not maintained at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand due to budget problems that made Indonesia likely to send a slimmer contingent.

"Of course I also asked the Minister of Finance, but indeed the budget today is still locked."

"Because the preparation for the SEA Games is only two months away, I want to ask for flexibility so that our achievements do not decrease drastically," he said.

If the budget does not support it, Indonesia will likely only send sports that have the potential to have a big gold medal so as not to leave the top 10 in the final standings of medals.

The 2025 SEA Games will take place on 9-20 December 2025. This two-year multi-branch sporting event will be held in three major cities, namely Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla.

This year, the host will complete a total of 50 sports and 574 match numbers. It is estimated that more than 12 thousand athletes will participate in the sports event involving the countries of the Southeast Asian region.
