Pertamina Boss Claims Not To Look For Profit From Fuel Imports To Private
JAKARTA - President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Simon Aloysius Mantiri emphasized that Pertamina did not take advantage of the situation and did not make a profit while carrying out the task of importing additional fuel for public fuel stations or private gas stations.
Therefore, Simon hopes that the price of fuel oil (BBM) at private gas stations will remain stable at the consumer level.
"Pertamina is not taking advantage of this situation and is not looking for profit here. We also convey that we have a mandate for energy security. We are also tasked with increasing the joint lifting with other K3S (oil and gas cooperation contract contractors). So, many other tasks are actually more important, "said Simon quoting Antara.
A number of business entities that own private SPBU gas stations, including Shell, Vivo, BP, and Exxon Mobil, agreed to import additional fuel through Pertamina. The additional fuel is fuel oil imported outside the quota that has been given by the government to the private sector.
For 2025, each of the private gas station owners gets a quota of 10 percent higher than the 2024 quota.
However, the more quota does not meet the needs of private gas stations, considering that certain types of fuel stocks at a number of private gas stations have run out in recent weeks.
As a result, several gas stations were forced to lay off their employees and for workers who survived, they sought alternative income by selling various snacks.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia, in responding to the situation, also suggested private gas stations import fuel outside the quota through Pertamina with a business to business (B2B) scheme. This suggestion was also received by the private gas station owner's business entity.
In the process of importing fuel, Pertamina's President Director Simon A. Mantiri emphasized that Pertamina will be transparent and open.
"I have said, it is open to all to do an open book mechanism so that together. So, we see what costs appear, then the mechanism is regulated by B2B. What is certain is that the price to consumers will not change," said Simon.
Simon also added that Pertamina's imports were part of a collaboration with the private sector.
"We do the mechanism well and of course private business entities can also have sustainable operations and commercially continue to enter," said Simon.
