Ministry Of Agriculture Ensures Stableization Steps For Chicken Prices To Maintain Market Stability
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) ensures that various steps to stabilize broiler prices continue to be carried out in order to maintain market balance, benefit farmers, and remain affordable for consumer communities throughout Indonesia.
"The government through the Ministry of Agriculture continues to move quickly to maintain the stability of broiler prices so that they remain affordable to the community and benefit farmers," said Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture Agung Suganda as reported by ANTARA, Friday, September 19.
He conveyed this when confirmed about the price of cut chicken in various regions soaring, one of which was in Banyumas, Central Java, from IDR 35,000 per kg to IDR 42,000 per kg.
As a result, sales of cut chicken fell, even the public finally reduced the consumption of chicken meat and switched to feet or chicken pastries.
Agung said that the Ministry of Agriculture and business actors had made several concrete steps, including maintaining national stock.
The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that Indonesia is currently experiencing a chicken surplus of up to 300 thousand tons, so that national needs can be met properly and it is hoped that the price of chickens will remain stable even though demand continues to increase.
Price surveillance efforts in the field are carried out together with poultry associations, the Food Task Force, and local governments to prevent the practice of setting prices that harm farmers and consumers unnaturally.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture also encourages facilitation of access to chicken distribution to various regions and supports programs to strengthen people's purchasing power, including integration with free nutritious eating programs in a number of areas.
On the farmer side, the development of the price of live chickens shows a positive trend, is at a good and stable level, thus providing more benefits than the conditions a few months earlier.
However, continued Agung, the price of live chickens is still below the reference purchase price at the farmer level set by the Decree of the Head of the National Food Agency as an official policy reference.
The Ministry of Agriculture affirms its commitment to maintain a balance of prices, so that farmers still get a decent business margin while consumers get an affordable price of chicken meat according to people's purchasing power.
"The stabilization measures taken by the government have proven effective in helping farmers no longer sell losses and encouraging a more conducive business climate," explained Agung.
It is said that the price of chickens living at the farmer level is currently at a stable level and tends to be profitable for farmers.
Data states that the price of live broiler chicken (livebird) in various production centers in mid-September 2025 is in the range of Rp. 21,000-Rp. 23,000 per kg, even in Aceh and Medan it reaches Rp. 24,000-Rp. 25,000 per kg.
"This price is already above the cost of principal production, an average of Rp. 19,000-Rp. 21,500 per kg, so that farmers get a reasonable margin and no longer sell losses," he explained.

"Still below the reference selling price (HAP) of Rp. 40,000 per kg set by the government," said Agung.
