Belly Makeup Trend At The Summer I Turned Pretty, Simple But Captivating Hearts

JAKARTA - Social media was shocked by the many video clips of The Summer I Turned Pretty for the third season of the seventh episode.

At that time, Belly was present at his single party with stunning makeup, namely appearance of bright skin, cheeks and merona lips and dramatic makeup. This appearance immediately caught the attention of fans and many tried to imitate it.

"This is the most intense makeup we've ever seen Belly wear in a series and he's really performed it beautifully," content creatorSUIT Schwwent with account owner TikTok @grechytok told Teen Vogue.

Julie Huang also expressed the same thing with the account name TikTok @juliebabulieofficial.

"This makeup highlights the beauty of Lola Tung in a simple but strong way. This scene is also very important and emotional," he said.

To create this look, it's actually not complicated. The key lies in a black eyeliner that is offered warm chocolate, pink blush in the middle of the cheek, and dusty-rose lipstick.

Schwwent recommends product layerings such as Saie's Glowy Super Gel, Dew Bronze, and Dew Blush, then equipped with Ilia Clean Line Liquid Eyeliner, Maskara Maybelline Lash Sensational, and Benefit Benetint.

"The results are a bit messy with the stylish style, because Belly looks like he's been wearing it all day," Huang said.

Interestingly, this trend is not just a matter of aesthetics. Belly's makeup is considered to be part of the storyline, reflecting his emotional development every season.

"Every plain face, thin eyeliner, to colored lips seems to describe Belly's emotional journey," Schwwent said.

When he was 15 to 16 years old, Belly still looked fresh and innocent.

"He was shown with a natural face, almost without makeup. Quite light skin, a little blush, and thin lip balm," explained Schwwent.

- Makayla Franks (@makaylaabigail) one of the fans and creators, added, "In the first episode, we saw a moment when everyone started to look at it differently. WhenEVER I said, 'I prefer you to be with glasses,' it shows that he always sees Belly as it is," said Franks content creator with the account name @mkaylaabigail.

"Belly in the first season looks fresh, natural, and very beach. Even at the debutant party, her makeup still emphasizes innocence, not drama," said makeup artist Marcela Regina Grow (@marcelaggermua)

The second season brings a big emotional burden, Belly mourns Susannah's passing. The appearance of her makeup has changed drastically, almost without color, only a concertar to disguise the black circle.

Many criticized Belly's makeup for looking flat and pale, said Schwartz.

Scwent said this trend aims to show Belly's love for makeup that looks dim. Then, he also imagined the reason for the trend.

"Maybe Belly only uses a Concealer to cover up fatigue after a lot of sleepless nights. The absence of makeup is actually a narrative choice. This illustrates Belly losing his light," he explained.

In the third season series, Belly is more mature, enters college and begins to recover.

"We want to show Belly who is more mature. There are still characteristics of his style, but this time there seems to be more effort," said artist Tara Sall's makeup to Pop Sugar.

The results showed tougher eyebrows, Merona cheeks, and soft eyeliner paint-eye which went viral.

"Seeing Belly after a time skip with a new makeup style is really cool. Eyeliner, pink blush, and more colorful lips show maturity and confidence," Huang said.

But there is also a deeper analysis. Jessica (@faeryfolkk) assessed that the third season shows Belly slowly losing himself. The appearance of the outside seems to reflect his desire to be a doll.

"The turning point occurred when Belly cut his hair in Paris. He did that only for himself. A symbol of releasing an identity that was not himself," explained Jessica.

This makeup journey leads to firm red lips, a sign that Belly finds his new identity.

"As a woman, I can relate. Wanting to look beautiful is natural, but at the same time as outer beauty, we also see the beauty in Belly also develops." Franks explained.
