Palestine Condemns US Veto Against UN DK Resolution
Palestinian Presidential Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh expressed deep regret and shock at the United States' veto of the United Nations Security Council's draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, despite unanimous support from 14 other Council members.
Abu Rudeineh stressed that the draft resolution had received enormous support, with 14 countries clearly demanding an immediate ceasefire and an end to genocide committed by Israel against the helpless Palestinian people.
"The United States chose to block the resolution using its veto rights," he said, quoted from WAFA September 19.
He warned that the US veto sent a dangerous message, prompting Israel to continue its crimes and disobedience to international law and legitimacy, including the recent opinion of advisers from the International Court, following a UN General Assembly resolution calling for an end to Israel's aggression, occupation, and full withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Abu Rudeineh urged the US Government to reconsider its position in order to maintain international law.
As previously reported, Uncle Sam's country on Thursday vetoed a draft United Nations Security Council resolution demanding an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and for Israel to lift all restrictions on aid deliveries to the Palestinian territories.
The draft resolution also demands immediate, dignified, and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups.
This Veto occurred when the death toll in the Palestinian enclave reached 65 thousand, including more than 400 of them due to hunger and malnutrition, since October 2023.
