The Attorney General's Office Explains Efforts To Execute The Matutina Silfester Despite No Results

JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) revealed the efforts that had been made in the prison execution process against Silfester Matutina.

It is known that Silfester Matutina is a convict in a case of alleged spread of slander against former Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

"As far as I remember, I had already called. What's left is legal steps, just ask the South Jakarta Kejari as the executing prosecutor," said Head of the AGO, Anang Supriatna, to reporters quoted on Friday, September 19.

However, this effort was fruitless. The Silfester has not yet been executed.

Regarding the possibility of execution after the trial, Silfester is known to have submitted a request for judicial review (PK), Anang said that the Jokowi volunteers were not present at the inaugural trial.

The absence of Silfester on the grounds of illness. This is supported by a certificate from the hospital.

"So yesterday that the person concerned was during the first PK trial, the person concerned was sick, he could not attend. There was a certificate from the hospital," he said.

"Meanwhile, at that time because the person concerned was not present at the PK. There was only a certificate of illness. A sick certificate was received by (the panel of judges) for a strong reason," continued Anang.

Regarding the next step that will be carried out to execute Silfester, Anang said that the matter should be asked directly to the South Jakarta District Attorney.

"Ask later to the South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office. The executor, what are the technical problems," said Anang.

It is known that Silfester Matutina, who is the General Chair of the Red and White Solidarity (Solmet), was convicted of alleged slander against former Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

He is suspected of spreading slander about Jusuf Kalla during his speech. This case occurred in 2017.

For his actions, Silfester was sentenced to 1 year in prison by the first instance court. Against the verdict, Silfester filed an appeal.

However, at the cassation level in 2019, the Silfester verdict was increased to 1.5 years in prison. Until now, Silfester has not been executed on the decision.
